State Representative Wuchner Named to Literacy Task Force

Frankfort , KY ) - State Representative Addia Wuchner (R-Florence) has been named a member of the Kentucky Adolescent Literacy Task Force.

The Kentucky Board of Education recently received a planning grant, working with the Kentucky Department of Education and the Kentucky Reading Association, to establish partnerships with select members of the education, business, and government communities. The purpose behind the grant is to address the literacy needs of students in grades 4-12. The Task Force will discuss ways Kentucky can increase student achievement while meeting the demands of the 21st century.

"Early language, enhancing literacy skills, and a cultural enthusiasm of children to read is essential for every child's future," said Representative Wuchner. "Through the efforts of this Task Force we will seek develop a comprehensive literacy plan which will prepare each child in our state to engage, succeed and compete in the very competitive world ahead. I am truly honored to be part of such an important mission to promote literacy, to quote an old adage, 'those who read, succeed'."

The Kentucky Adolescent Literacy Task Force will hold their first meeting on Friday, January 18, 2008 in the ground floor auditorium of the Capital Plaza Office Tower . The meeting will be from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
