Monday, November 18, 2007Tina Knapp joins State Representative Addia Wuchner in Honoring Outstanding Health Organizations
Crestview Hills , KY- Thursday, Boone County State Representative Addia Wuchner (R-Burlington) joined Tina Knapp a dispatcher for Boone County PSCC and founder of Friends & Family for a Cure, in presenting awards and checks. Rep. Wuchner presented the "Fighting, Surviving, and Thriving" award to St. Elizabeth Women's Wellness and Breast Center , St. Luke Breast Health Center, and the American Cancer Society Northern Kentucky Office for their outstanding service to the women of Northern Kentucky and their commitment to “knock out breast cancer”.
Mrs. Knapp presented each agency with a check for $2000.00 to assist in services for Northern Kentuckians diagnosed with breast cancer. These funds were provided by the second annual Friends & Families For a Cure banquet, which was held on October 6 at Turfway Park . Tina Knapp and Representative Wuchner are breast cancer survivors and both of their mothers also had breast cancer. Mrs. Knapp's mother Jean Piper is a co-founder for Friends & Families For a Cure. Representative Wuchner's mother passed away in 1994.
“Our first event raised $5000.00. We were excited as this year's event raised $8000.00, and I am so pleased to present this award to these worthy organizations, said Mrs. Knapp. “We are already looking forward to continued success with our 2008 event, planned for Saturday October 4 at Turfway Park , fourth floor.”
“ I was helping Tina on her first event in 06 and strangely enough I was diagnosed with breast cancer on the eve of the Friends and Families For a Cure banquet. I called Tina and said to her, I told you I would help but I did not know I would have to join the club. Tina was a wonderful support and friend during my treatment.” said Wuchner.
“So often cancer survivors find that their encounter with cancer has taught them how to live with a deeper apperception and you want to give back. Not just fighting and surviving but, thriving became my motto on this journey. As I shared it with others it caught on and so I created the award to recognize those individuals and organization who embodied that motto," said Representative Wuchner. "Each of these recipients, Tina Knapp, St. Elizabeth's, St. Luke's, and the American Cancer Society are such wonder assets to all of Northern Kentucky and I thank them for their continued dedication to women's health and breast health."
