Wear Pink to Work Day
State Representative Addia Wuchner encourages Kentuckians to show support for breast cancer awareness

FRANKFORT, KY (October 10, 2007) – Today, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, State Representative Addia Wuchner (R-Burlington) joined Kentucky First Lady Glenna Fletcher in the second annual "Wear Pink To Work Day" celebration held at the State Capitol's floral clock.

"Words cannot even express the pure joy I felt to see so many wearing the traditional pale pink shade

representing breast cancer awareness," said Representative Wuchner. “This is one day that those affected by breast cancer can visibly see that Kentuckians are behind them, cheering them on through their journey to remission."

Representative Wuchner, a breast cancer survivor, had an opportunity to share insight about her diagnosis with the group assembled for the event and stressed the importance of early detection through mammograms. "It is lonely when you step into the breast cancer ring, but I knew I had to fight back because I was in the battle of my life."

Additionally, the "Wear Pink To Work Day" celebration was the perfect setting for Representative Wuchner to present her first "Fighting, Surviving, and Thriving" award to the Governor and First Lady in recognition and appreciation of their leadership and commitment to the citizens of Kentucky  to “knock out” Breast Cancer.

”Wear Pink to Work Day" gives residents of the Commonwealth a chance to show support for continued awareness and research for breast cancer, a disease that impacts countless lives every year. It is also an opportunity to celebrate hope, perseverance, and the goal to end breast cancer.

Representative Wuchner added, "This day was a small but significant way to honor the individuals and families touched by this disease, and to demonstrate that we are united in the fight to save lives and reduce number of Kentuckians diagnosed with breast cancer.”

Throughout October Representative Wuchner will be participating in many breast cancer awareness events to inform the public, honor breast cancer survivors, and pay tribute to the memory of those who lost their battle against this disease.

“My message to everyone suffering from this disease is ‘Don't Give Up!' Find your courage and fight to survive and thrive," added Representative Wuchner. “Never lose hope because it is the one thing that can stand in the face of cancer and remind us this disease is only a small part of who and what we are.”

The American Cancer Society estimates 3,220 Kentuckians will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year for the first time, and 620 citizens of the Commonwealth will die from this often treatable disease. Early detection is the key to survival
